Facts About the Most Common Car Crash Injuries in South Palm Beach County

Posted on February 10, 2022

From January through November 2021, 13,496 people were injured in car crashes in Palm Beach County[1]. While some of those injured had minor cuts and scrapes, others suffered life-altering injuries. If you have been injured in an accident in Palm Beach County, or anywhere, you deserve compensation for your injuries. Following are three of the many types of car crash injuries for which we have secured compensation for victims:

Head Injuries

When a person’s head hits the windshield, dashboard, or steering wheel, a head injury can result. One type of head injury is a concussion. This happens when your brain hits the inner walls of your skull. The symptoms of a concussion may not appear for several days after the accident. Concussions can cause headaches and problems with concentration, memory, balance, or coordination that last for months.[2]

Another type of head injury is a traumatic brain injury (TBI). There are a wide range of symptoms associated with TBIs depending on their severity. Some of these include headaches, loss of consciousness, seizures, and loss of coordination. Similar to a concussion, the symptoms of a TBI can take days, or sometimes weeks, to appear. Some TBIs resolve over time, others produce a permanent disability.[3]

Whiplash

Rear-end car crashes are a major culprit of whiplash because they can cause the head to be violently thrown back and forth. Whiplash can cause neck pain, headaches, fatigue, and dizziness, as well as other symptoms. In many cases, whiplash can resolve with physical therapy. For other people, whiplash can cause chronic pain.[4]

Back Injuries

One of the most severe types of back injury is a spinal cord injury. According to the Mayo Clinic, spinal cord injuries are caused by a “a sudden, traumatic blow to your spine that fractures, dislocates, crushes or compresses one or more of your vertebrae.” Car and motorcycle accidents cause nearly half of all spinal cord injuries each year. A spinal cord injury can lead to paralysis as well as a host of other lifelong complications.[5]
